Gluten Free Apple Crisp
This simple Fall Classic can be made with many different fresh, firm apple varieties. It's made with gluten free oats

Ingredients
- 6 apples (golden delicious, honeycrisp, or other firm, large baking apples. Peeled, cored, and cut into wedges)
- ½ cup sugar
- ⅛ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon tapioca (small tapioca pearls. Or substitute 1 tablespoon cornstarch)
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon nutmeg
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter (keep the butter cold until you use it)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup oats (use gluten free oats, and grind them in a food processor or blender)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F
- In a bowl, combine the apples, sugar, salt, tapioca, cinnamon, and nutmeg, and place into an 8”x8” baking dish
- In a separate bowl, with your hands, or a pastry cutter, combine the butter, brown sugar, and ground oats, until the butter is the size of small peas. Sprinkle this over the apple mixture
- Bake for 30-45 minutes, or until the apples are cooked through, and the mixture is bubbling
- Serve warm or at room temperature, with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a wedge of cheddar cheese
Notes
NOTES:
- The wider you cut the apples, the longer this will take to bake. It may take up to 10-15 minutes longer
- If you're concerned that the apples may start to brown after you peel and cut them, but before you add in the remaining ingredients, just place them in a bowl. Cover them with water, and mix in the juice of one lemon
