Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon gochujang (Koren fermented chili paste. See below for subsitutions)
  • 2 tablespoons tamari (or soy sauce)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves (peeled and minced)
  • 1 teaspoon ginger (peeled and minced)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon grapeseed oil (or avocado or canola oil)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon agave (or honey, as needed)
  • 1 pound tofu (cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil (or avocado or canola oil)

Instructions

  • In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the gochujang, tamari, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, grapeseed oil, and sesame seeds. Taste the sauce/marinade. If it’s too spicy, or sweet, add a bit more gochujang, or agave, to balance the flavor to your liking
  • Add in the tofu, and let it marinate for anywhere from 30 minutes to overnight
  • When you’re ready to cook the tofu, preheat the oven to 425°. Cover a sheet pan with aluminum foil, and spread a thin layer of the neutral oil on it
  • Cook the tofu for 10-15 minutes, turning it over every five minutes. Cook until the tofu starts to get a bit crisp
  • Serve over rice, or wrapped in lettuce leaves

Notes

Gochujang substitutes:
  • ¾ teaspoon Tabasco and 1 tablespoon ketchup
Or
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha and 1 tablespoon ketchup
